38 CED ANNUAL MEETING (Barcelona, April 2008)
With a high attendance, the 38 CED Annual Meeting was held in the Alimara Hotel of Barcelona, on the 2nd and 3rd of April 2008. Organized by the Spanish Committee on Detergency and Surfactants this congress usually gathers more than 200 delegates coming from different countries, mainly European countries, and is one of the most important events annually held in the field of Detergency and Cosmetics. The Opening Ceremony of the 38 CED Annual Meeting was chaired by Mrs. Mercè Sala, president of the Work, Economic and Social Council of Catalunya, accompanied by Mrs. Olga Sanahuja, president of CED, Mr. Crisanto las Heras, from the Spanish Industry Ministry, Mr. Enric Julià, director of Institut Químico de Sarrià and Mr. Juan Robledo, vicepresident of CED. Leading authorities from the University, the Government and the Industry were also present.
An interesting Plenary Lecture was presented by Mrs. Mercè Sala, on the subjet: "Teams' leadership", which was extraordinarily appreciated by the audience.
The programme consisted of 20 lectures and 18 posters, presented by researchers of different Universities, Research Centres, and members of R&D and Marketing Departments of important companies of the sector. All the proposals of scientific papers originally submitted, were previously selected by a Scientific Committee constituted by technicians of the CED member companies, CSIC researchers, and professors of the University of Barcelona. The papers presented to this conference have been published in the book “Comunicaciones presentadas a las 38 Jornadas Anuales del CED” (2008). This publication includes a CD-ROM with the same content of the book.

37 CED ANNUAL MEETING (Sevilla, March 2007)
The Opening Ceremony was held in the Paraninfo of the Sevilla University, and it was chaired by the vice-chancellor Prof. Marycruz Arcos Vargas. Leading authorities from the University and from the Government were also present.
The presentation of the CED medal to Dr. Xavier Domingo Campos, as posthumous award, was held during this session and it was received by his widow, Dr. Concepción Herraz. A Plenary Lecture was presented by Dr. José Domínguez Abascal, on the subject: Hacia una Andalucía del Conocimiento The morning session on Thursday March 22nd, was held in the Instituto de la Grasa, where 50 years ago the CED was born. This session consisted of an academic ceremony, chaired by Dr. Francisco Millán Rodríguez, director of such Institute, accompanied by Dr. Olga Sabahuja, president of CED, Dr. Juan Robledo, vicepresident of CED, Dr. Enric Julià, director of Instituto Químico de Sarrià and Dr. Joaquín Sánchez Leal, General Secretary of CED.
During such ceremony, the Medal of the CED was handled to the Instituto de la Grasa in the person of its director D. Francisco Millán. Afterwards, D. Carlos Gómez Herrera, José Saltor y F. Martínez presented three lectures specially scheduled for this occasion. The Thursday afternoon session and Friday morning session were held in the Tryp Macarena Hotel. The programme consisted of works of scientific technical character, starting with two lectures around the consumer preferences and the importance of the fragances, respectively, followed by a series of lectures on detergency applications of the new surfactant molecules, as well as enzymes, and viscosity modifying polymers. Friday morning was dedicated to lectures on physico-chemistry, and on the environmental issue, from the point of view of risk assessment and the corresponding legislation.
All the proposals of scientific papers originally submited, were previously selected by a Scientific Committee constituted by techniciens of the member companies, CSIC researchers, and professors of the University of Barcelona. The scientific programme consisted of 17 lectures and 19 posters, presented by researchers of different universities, Research Centers, and members of the R&D and Marketing Departments of the sector companies. The participation of the speakers from abroad, mainly from the CEE, was a 52%.
On Thursday evening, took place in the congress venue hotel, a social dinner with great attendance, in which we commemorated the 50th Anniversary of CED. The papers presented to this conference has been published in the book “Comunicaciones presentadas a las 37 Jornadas Anuales del CED” (2007). This publication includes also a CD-ROM with the same content of the book. The number of delegates was more than 220, coming from different countries, mainly from the E.C.
